Four suspects are facing trial in New York this week for brutally beating a man on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in a fight that was recorded on video. The beating, which left 37-year-old Kyam Washington’s skull fractured and gave him permanent hearing loss, occurred at Essex and Rivington Streets around 4 a.m. on May 8, 2010.
Video of the fight was released to the public at a trial for the four suspects: Andrew McCray, Martrell Terrell, Shadia Brackman and Christopher Montanez, who are all from Yonkers.

Video of the fight was released to the public at a trial for the four suspects: Andrew McCray, Martrell Terrell, Shadia Brackman and Christopher Montanez, who are all from Yonkers. In the graphic video recording, the suspects can be seen repeatedly striking Washington as drunk onlookers cheer them on and others scream in horror. A bystander who tried to break up the fight was punched in the face.‘Oh yeah baby!’ yells one man.
‘Oh yeah that’s good footage right there!’ yells another.
‘Get him, get him, hit him two more times,’ someone shouts.
The video is so graphic that the jurors were cautioned about the violence before it was played in court. ‘I need to warn you that the video you’re going to see in this case contains graphic disturbing footage of possibly the most prolonged and brutal assault that you have ever, or will ever, see,’ Assistant District Attorney Lucy Cutolo told the Manhattan Supreme Court panel on Jan. 8.
The suspects had been drinking Hennessy at Libation on Ludlow Street for a friends birthday before the attack…

Washington, the victim, has a criminal history that includes a rape conviction. Jurors were not permitted to hear about his criminal history.
The suspects said the fight was started by the victim when he stole McCray’s fake chain.
